Note that these responses are not official additions to the questions; only explanations of what is required to answer them. Be sure you read the question and understand it fully before answering.

1. Do I need to define the systems in 1?

It would be helpful in supporting your answer if you defined each system so that you can relate the specific characteristics of that system's definition to the facts that appear in the case. Be sure to use the system definitions I gave, not ones from the book.

2. What does "support" mean in 2A,  4A, and 4C?

You must relate case facts to a specific (and clearly stated) definition and show how each part of that definition is satisfied by the facts of the case.

2. I can't find a quote in the case giving information about question 2A.

There is sufficient information in the case for you to build and support an answer to this question.  Use common sense and logical reasoning.

3. What does it mean in 3A to list the stages?

I would suggest that you label each stage in the traditional systems development life cycle as shown in the book and discussed in class, starting with project definition as 3A1. Where there are sub-stages (as in implementation), list each sub-stage.  Use the same labeling consistently for 3B and 3C for stages you say in 3A that consultants were used.

4.  For question #4, should we use the testing approach and cutover method from your notes or should we types mentioned in the text page# 351-352.

Use the definitions from the notes. IS Testing Approaches and IS Cutover Approaches

References. There isn't a source on the printed case. How should I reference this?

This case was on the web, but no longer is. You can reference as Microsoft Corp. as author and source as http://www.microsoft.com/business/casestudies and access date as 12/12/99.
